shelly and I played at Winn's Creek Church in Halifax, VA tonight. small baptist church. out in the sticks. un-grounded power. two speakers. one in each corner of the room. pews. stained glass.
we met some great people. it was great to just get to meet them and hear their stories. before we played, I had the chance to read their church history that was encased in a back room. the church is 225 years old. it's first pastor fell into immorality and was removed from the ministry. (he later repented and was restored to the congregation)
what a warning.
all in all, a great night. several came to know the Lord for the first time. I'm grateful that we get to serve this way...
Today I had the chance to hang out with Andrew Bryant. It was great to hear a little of his story and just make a new friend. I know that sounds a little middle school, but deal with it. We got to talk about all things music, de-constructing pictures and music and art...We talked about cliches in photography world, and I think he did an excellent job of steering away from them. He was excellent to work with, so if you ever need a wedding photographer, give him a call!
I'll post some of the pictures as soon as I get them, but for now, you can hop over to his blog and see a preview!
I've realized a lot about myself in the last few years. I like drums. I like playing them. listening to them. creating rhythms and textures and grooves. comfortable pockets where melodies live. I've realized that although I spend a great deal of time playing guitar with Shelly I also really enjoy playing drums.
this is pretty much my current setup...

See, Elijah had been commanded by the Lord "Arise, go" to a place where the Lord had commanded a widow to feed him. When he gets there the widow responds honestly. Realistically. "As the Lord your God lives..." (v. 12) She has enough food to feed her and her son. Nothing more.
I don't think I've ever been to the point where I will prepare my last meal that I would "eat it and die". That's it. Nothing left. No hope of more. But the widow responds to Elijah's call to prepare something for him. "For thus says the Lord the God of Israel". She believed God. She trusted the Word of God. Even in the face of death she "went and did as Elijah said."
1. come up with list of things to do.
